About Us

LADIES GOLF CLUB

The Ladies Golf Club, as part of the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club, was formed in 1968. This was shortly after the club’s move to our current location.  It is operated through an elected executive composed of a President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Handicap Chair and Ladies Day Club Liaison.  Tournament Chairs and League Organizers also sit on the executive as ex officio members.  The executive is the coordinating, planning, organizing and implementing body for ladies programming at the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club.

Mission

To ensure that the ladies of the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club enjoy the spirit, camaraderie and challenge within the golfing community and in the pleasure of the golfing environment.

Activities

We organize many golfing opportunities each year including:

Ladies Morning Golf where ladies come together around 8:30 a.m and go out in random foursomes promoting mixing and making new friendships.

Crown & Anchor Match Play which is more competitive with teams of two using handicaps.

Singles Match Play is also competitive and uses handicaps.   It runs throughout the summer accumulating number of holes won against other persons.

Interclub Challenge Match Play Event with The Dunes Golf & Winter Club.  Created to provide an opportunity to form friendly relationships with another club’s ladies. There are three sets of matches in different formats held throughout the summer. Points are accumulated and the winning team takes home the annual trophy.

Ladies Social League is currently organized by our Golf Shop and is a fun league for anyone not concerned with the scores who want to socialize and have some fun.   Recognizing the desire of some Social League teams to participate in a competition, we do organize a component within the Social League filling that need where the scores do matter and many teams are taking part.

We also host 3 tournaments:

The Ladies Classic, which is a one day four person team event using the two best 2 low net and low gross scores.

The Grandma’s and Friends is a one day individual stroke play tournament honouring the overall best low net grandma as well as the best overall low gross, which can be anyone.

The Ladies Open is a two day individual stroke play tournament which has been in place for over fifty years.  We are proud to say it is one of the few 2 day events in the Peace Country making it worthwhile for ladies to come to Grande Prairie on a golf road trip.

Junior Golf Support

The Ladies Golf Club has been a long time advocate for Junior Golf, providing some funds and an annual scholarship.  In 2016 we joined in the LPGA Girls Go Golf Program and provide funding so our club can offer this opportunity to young girls wanting to golf.

In addition:

We are committed to continue our support to the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club’s initiatives through financial contributions when funds are available.
